The Double Security concept has been synonymous with maximum durability since 1959. It incorporates several design features that make Certina watches exceptionally robust – and still does to this day. These include scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, a reinforced case back and a sophisticated sealing system. Over the years, the DS Concept has been repeatedly refined to reflect the state of the art. To prevent the dial from deforming or slipping in the case if knocked, an ultra-thin metal plate has been positioned between the dial and the movement to secure the two elements together for more stability.

The precise and intricate movement must be protected at all costs. This is why it is screwed down into the case on “New DS Concept Extreme Shock Resistance” models by means of a thin, ring-shaped nut, which provides increased stability, especially in the event of vibrations.
